Our History
We started as a street-front agency in Edmonton’s inner city in 1971. Since then, through assertive outreach, client-centreed case management, and hands-on problem solving Boyle Street has helped people meet basic needs, develop skills and engage with a community. For the past twelve years, Boyle Street has also provided residential care that focuses on family reunification, permanency and independence.
Boyle Street has a long-standing reputation for helping people who are disadvantaged to manage the multiple problems they face. It is well respected by the aboriginal community for providing accessible and culturally relevant services. Boyle Street is committed to a community-based approach that builds on people’s capacities and strengthens communities.
Throughout its history, Boyle Street Community Services has focused on two core businesses:
- Delivering a continuum of targeted community-based preventive social, health and education programs that build skills and ensure that people have somewhere to live, someone to talk to and something to do.
- Building the community’s capacity to promote self-care through healthy public policy, advocacy, creating supportive environments and promoting mutual support.
Today, we are a multi-service organization that provides housing, mental health, family and youth programs. We also operate four group homes for youth from ages 2-18.
