SALARY: $21,518-$25,320/year
HOURS: 0.5 FTE position working 18.75 hours/week

Job Purpose:

The Family Outreach Worker will partner with the family and help them navigate government and community systems in order to receive the support they need in their lives. By working closely with the child intervention system and using a community development approach, they will support the families to seamless delivery based on the family identifying their needs.


  • Work with City Central Intervention Office in order to create and implement meaningful opportunities to engage families.
  • Help families’ access services.
  • Teach parenting skills where appropriate
  • Utilizes a harm reduction relationship-based approach as the heart of the team’s work and includes the Family and youth/child and their perspectives as a priority in practice.
  • Use team based practice, utilizing natural supports as part of the team.
  • Facilitate information exchange among team members.
  • Collaborate, in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the wraparound services for families.
  • Connect, support and advocate for families in accessing other services from government or other community agencies.
  • Act as a facilitator or case conference coordinator.
  • Negotiate for services and participate in mediation.
  • Support self-advocacy to assist families to become their own best advocates.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Compile and collect necessary demographics and statistics, administer family evaluations during home visits and record results of same, Maintain accurate, timely and complete case files for each family.Qualifications:
  • Education:
  • 2-year Diploma or equivalency in Education, Social Work, Early Childhood Development, Child/Youth work, Community Rehabilitation, Health or related field.Skills, Abilities and Attitudes:
  • Great attention to detail and excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Proven ability to work in a respectful and client centered manner.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Power Point)
  • Able to communicate effectively and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to work in a stressful environment and deal with difficult, sometimes abusive, clients.
  • Possess robust mental health and a commitment to self care.Knowledge and Experience:
  • The individual will understand optimal child development (executive functioning, regulation, serve and return, toxic stress, etc.) and utilize it to help children achieve their potential.
  • Experience of networking with a range of partners and stakeholders is essential.
  • Experience of report writing is essential.
  • Knowledge of principles and practice of Harm Reduction is desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of family, youth and poverty related issues and trends, particularly, in Edmonton are essential.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture is essential and experience of working with Aboriginal communities is desirable.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to optimal child development.
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources, especially those that resource and support family.
  • Good understanding of cultural competency and experience working with inter cultural populations.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
  • Criminal record check and CWIS (Child Welfare Information System) check.
  • First Aid and CPR
